The Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce provides a helpline and bespoke consultancy on customs matters, alongside customs clearance agent services and a full training programme of International Trade & Customs training courses and workshops.

Customs can be complex and subject to change, so it is important that any business trading internationally ensures that their procedures are current to avoid customs compliance issues as well seeking to incorporate best practice to assist in reducing operating costs.

Our Helpline service, manned by an experienced team of customs professionals, provides any business with single point access to support and solutions to any questions or queries you may have.

Customs Health Check Package

For both established and new companies trading internationally, customs compliance is often overlooked and/or the assumption made that products are being exported and imported correctly because they have not been audited by HMRC. The grace period for the changes made during Brexit are over, businesses should now be able to demonstrate effective customs management.

Why the Health Check?

The aim of the visit is to take away those worries and provide a proactive plan for the eventuality of an audit. Following the check, we provide the business with a detailed report on any found non-conformance. We will not only provide solutions but intend to factor in cost and time saving strategies

 

With our experience and specialist team, we can pinpoint the areas for improvement following checks on the companies’ records, audit trails and management systems.

What will the day cover?

Following pre-communication and introduction to the businesses international trade activities we will check the following:

  • Current process for Import & Export, documentation checks including business records, orders, and commercial paperwork.
  • The process of how you classify your goods for import, declaring the correct values and paying the right amount of duty & VAT.
  • How you classify your goods for export, selecting your values, and whether your goods require export controls.
  • Checks on Special procedures & rules of origin.
  • Record keeping & previous non-conformances.

The check will be a full day from 09:00 – 16:30
